The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola are a lengthy dynamic in which a person prays to attain graces from God.
These graces comprise a deep growth in the spiritual life. Some of these graces are: recognizing that the retreatant was made in love, that he or she is a loved sinner, that he or she can be interiorly free, that he or she is called to follow Christ, that he or she begins the process of discernment [i.e. a prayerful process leading one to make a decision], that he or she can find God in all things, and that he or she can become a contemplative even in the midst of activity.
It takes approximately thirty days to move through the various prayerful exercises and to attain the graces which Ignatius presents to the retreatant.
